Prior to starting his own startup, Sporjo, of which he is CEO, G Srinivvasan spent over six years with the Reliance Group where he led marketing and strategy for the Reliance Sports Group, working across global properties in football and cricket. His functions also extended to IMG Reliance and the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports.
He was a key person in the team that set up and launched the Indian Super League- India’s premier football league. He spearheaded the ISL’s sponsorship sales and marketing for the first three years, while also being deeply involved in the operations of the league. He also oversaw the ISL’s subsequent expansion from eight to ten teams. Over this period, the ISL has become a household name in India. Before his role with the Reliance Group, G Srinivvasan was heading marketing and sponsorship sales for the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) where he worked on the Indian Premier League-IPL. During his tenure of three years, G Srinivvasan helped formulate the brand strategy for the IPL, working closely with the eight franchise partners on all commercial and sponsorship elements. He liaised with broadcast partners from India and around the globe to promote the league in their respective territories well ahead of its start. He also led a commercial team from IMG to sell sponsorships and subsequently service central partners of the league. Additionally, he managed relationships with central partners and the broadcaster to promote the Indian National Team’s games. He was also the lead across marketing and commercial verticals of a cross-functional team from India, Australia, and South Africa for the Champions League T20 tournament.
Before the BCCI, G Srinivassan worked with Nike where he led the football category business. He also handled brand communications for over four years. During this time he set up the brand and digital functions. He was the mind behind the “Nike Traffic Jam ad” which is recalled as one of the best ads in India till date. G Srinivassan began his journey in sports with ESPN wherein he worked on the brand marketing team, eventually moving to business development and then creating customized sporting events for almost just under 5 years.
